Making Time for God

In a world that seems to spin faster and faster every day, it can seem hard to make time for God. The question we need to ask ourselves is, “why are we trying to ‘fit in’ the Creator?” He is the very reason we’re alive, and He doesn’t deserve to be a check on our to-do list.

“It’s crazy that we think today is just a normal day to do whatever we want with.”

-Francis Chan

While we may say that we know this to be true, I think that it can be confusing to know how to make time for God in the day-to-day.

We get so caught up in our own lives, and our own stress, and how we can get things done to move forward to the life we want, but it’s an afterthought to think about how we are advancing the Kingdom of God.

Stress implies that the fleeting things of the Earth are more worthy of our attention than the everlasting God.

So how do we “make time” for God in our everyday life?

Find time to be in the Word and talk with God every day, and keep it consistent. Maybe it’s the first thing when you wake up, or during your lunch break. Whenever it is, make it a habit. The Word of God is where we get our guidelines to life from, and if you are struggling to make God a priority, reading what Jesus did for you and how faithful God is bound to make an impact.

Let the Spirit lead. God has put the Holy Spirit in everyone that comes to faith through Jesus Christ. He has literally given us part of Him for the very purpose of leading us and making communication with Him possible. So what does this mean? When we pray for guidance from the Holy Spirit and surrender our own will, only then can God make His will appear to us. This is something to celebrate! When we let God take charge of our lives, the little things don’t seem to matter anymore. We aren’t running around completing the minuscule tasks of everyday life but instead can focus on our true purpose of growing the Kingdom of God.

“In the context of God’s strength, our problems are small, indeed.”

-Francis Chan

I encourage you to not let this just be another thing you scroll through today. I pray that you would take this to heart and that a life change would happen. The only reason you are on this Earth is because God created you for a purpose. The point of your life is to point to Him. These words should bring us peace. God already has it all mapped out, and all we have to do is follow His lead, and when we do this, we have all the time in the world for Him.

As always, don’t just take my word for it! Leave comments, ask questions, and start conversations. The body of Christ is a community.
