So often, I am stuck in my own little routine.
I go to class, go to work and treasure the moments that I get to lay in my bed, watch my shows and scroll on my phone. How often in that day-to-day routine am I showing the love of Christ to the people around me? How many people that I talk to daily can tell that I have new life?
We are called to be the light of the world; the hands and feet of Jesus on earth.
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
What does being a light mean?
Being a light means taking active efforts to show the love of Christ to the people around you. It is a selfless kind of love. It can look like holding the door open for people with a smile, cooking a meal for an elderly neighbor, shutting down gossip, taking extra time to talk to someone you know has been struggling, or sending an encouraging text to remind someone that you’re thinking of them. It is a big love that can be shown in all kinds of ways.
Through being a light, we can begin to have life-changing conversations. People should see something different in you just by the way you act.
So what does this look like in your life?
I encourage you all to really think about this. Being the light of Christ is crucial to building His kingdom on earth.
If we aren’t actively growing His kingdom, what are we doing?
If this is something you struggle with as well, start with small steps. Make at least one active effort each day to be a light to someone. The more you do it, the more instinctual it will become. Most importantly, pray about it! Ask God to put opportunities on your heart, and be looking for them. When you are living for Him, He will provide.
For the next 30 days, I challenge you to write down what you did to be a light that day. Please don’t overlook the importance of this. It won’t take long. It will be so amazing at the end of the 30 days to look back on how you helped His kingdom come!
Don’t be too busy to share life-giving love with the people around you.
As always, the body of Christ is a community, so share this post with someone who needs it! (We all need it). Have questions or just want to talk? Head on over to the ‘Contact’ page!
